Lesson Four: Online Article Format and Length

As a new online writer, you may be wondering if there is some special format that writers use to write successful articles. Although there are no hard-and-fast rules, there are some basic guidelines that online writers follow to create effective articles.

Article  Length Matters

The length your articles is determined by the content, the publishing format and personal preference. According to Dimensions Guide, Internet readers are looking for quick solutions to their problems. They read quickly and have short attention spans. The ideal article ranges from 250 to 500 words.

If your article goes over 600 words, you are likely to lose readers. Keeping your work short and to the point holds the reader's attention and increases your chances of being read.

Break it Down

Keep in mind that 250 words is probably the minimum length required to index well with search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo. Articles over 600 words should be broken down into two or more articles.

With that in mind, it's time to take a look at the format of a successful online article.
